Complex medical conditions often require different medical points of view. The broad spectrum of specialities has enabled the EvKB to create interdisciplinary focal points. A patient will not only be advised by an expert, but specialists from various disciplines will decide together on the best therapy.

The Neurological Centre treats all diseases of the nerves, the muscles and the brain. Enjoying world-wide fame is the Bethel Epilepsy Centre, the core of which is formed by the EvKB Epilepsy Clinics for Children and Adults in Mara. Epilepsy is treated in these clinics conservatively as well as surgically. The Clinic for Neurosurgery plays a large role in this. The EvKB provides neurological care for the whole of Bielefeld and the surrounding region with clinics in the Johannesstift and in Bethel (Gilead I). Two highly specialised institutes for Neuroradiology and Neuropathology provide all necessary diagnostic findings.
The Neurological Clinics run the two EvKB Stroke Units, which cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis with Neurosurgery and the institutes within the Neurological Centre. In addition, they work closely with Cardiology, as well as the internal and anaesthesiological Intensive Care Medicine. The Stroke Units are officially accredited, the EvKB being a regionally acknowledged Stroke Centre.
Our new Abdominal Centre is in the Johannesstift. Cores of this Centre are the Clinics for General and Visceral Surgery (abdominal surgery) and the Clinics for Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
The Lung Centre in Gilead 1, which opened in January 2006, is a new concept where the Pneumological Department of the Clinic for Internal Medicine and the newly-created Thoracic Surgery Department work hand in hand.
The Breast Centre Bielefeld-Herford consists of four hospitals, working jointly to treat breast cancer. Our Woman’s Clinic in the Johannesstift is the surgical arm of the Breast Centre with other internal partners being our Institutes for Pathology and Radiology. The Centre is acknowledged by the North Rhine-Westphalian State Government and is officially accredited by the Medical Board of Westphalia-Lippe.
The Continence Centre in the Johannesstift, which involves the Clinic for Urology and the Woman’s Clinic, exists since 2007. The Centre for Handicapped Medicine in Mara, where people with special needs receive medical treatment, has been well established for many years.
Our Perinatal Centre, which is acknowledged by the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, treats high-risk pregnancy cases from the whole of East-Westphalia. The Centre includes our Obstetrics Department in Bethel, which employs all the latest techniques of ante-natal diagnostics, our Paediatric Centre and the Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatric Surgery Departments.
Not only the people of Bielefeld profit from our Trauma Centre in Gilead I; it also treats patients, with the most severe and multiple injuries from the whole region.
