Since 1996 the Gilead Hospital, and subsequently the EvKB, has been responsible for providing in- and outpatient care to British Forces and their dependents. Approximately 2200 members of BFG from bases in Bielefeld, Gütersloh, Herford and Hameln are treated as inpatients each year. During their admission to the EvKB the BFG patients are supported by the Hospital Liaison Team (HLO), who provide linguistic assistance where necessary, advise patients on hospital routines and generally help with questions and queries that may arise. The HLOs' main objective is to assist in making the patients' stay in hospital as comfortable as possible and on discharge ensure the seamless transfer into primary care.
